Rock & Roll Farming with Jacob Anthony
Tonight I’m heading down to Bridgend in South Wales to talk to the new Farmer’s Weekly Young Farmer of the Year, Jacob Anthony @Jacob_cwmrisca
We talk about his farm, that’s been in the family since 1926, and some of the joys/challenges of working with family, before going into his time spent studying at Hartpury College.
We discuss the 1000 LLeyn x Texel Ewes that they run, and the fact that he took over the management of the flock at a very early age, as well as going into the cattle and cropping they have.
We go into the family’s decision to invest in renewables, with an 11kw wind turbine, and a 60w biomass boiler, and the reasoning behind it, as well as their involvement in the Glastir environmental scheme.
We talk about the varied list of community activities the family get involved with on the farm, including an annual tractor run to raise funds for Wales Air ambulance, and also we discuss the many off farm personal development roles that he’s got involved with over the last few years.
Lastly we go into that it was like to be nominated, and ultimately win, the Farmer’s weekly Young Farmer of the Year Award, and what it means to him and his family.
All this and much, much more.
Jacob’s a great guy, and really good example of a go-ahead and dynamic young farmer, and and it was a pleasure to talk to him tonight.
