024 – Rock & Roll Crofting

Tonight I’m heading all the way up to the Isle of Lewis, in the beautiful Western Isles of North West Scotland to talk to crofter and broadcaster Domhnall McSween @SweenyNess

After my pathetic attempts at Gallic pronunciation, Domhnall tells us all about the unique part of the World that he lives, some of the amazing archaeological remains he’s found there, and the connection he and his family have to the island.

We discover what a croft actually is, and how the society works. We also talk about how he came to be back on the family croft after a brief stint away at Glasgow University studying Maths.

We go on to talk about how his thinking outside the box, and the importance of marketing, has led to him becoming the biggest egg and pork producer on the Western Isles.

We discuss his fantastic blog – airanlot.com – and the extensive amount of TV work he’s done for BBC Alba, that’s led to him travelling the length and breadth of Britain.

We also hear the greatest football story ever. Don’t miss this one!

All this and lots more, in a specially extended edition of Rock & Roll Farming..
